A meningioma is a type of tumor that develops from the meninges, the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. 90 percent of meningiomas are categorized as benign tumors, with the remaining 10 percent being atypical or malignant.

The approach from below was reserved for meningiomas with subtentorial involvement only. In meningiomas with both supra- and subtentorial growth, a supratentorial bone flap was combined with a suboccipital craniectomy using a retromastoid incision. The mortality rate was 9.8%.

Methods. The records of 27 patients with TMs were retrospectively reviewed for clinical presentation, neuroradiological evaluation, surgical treatment and long-term outcome. Tentorial meningiomas represent about 5% of intracranial meningiomas. This article reviews our recent institutional series of patients with tentorial meningiomas, proposes a simplified Tentorial meningiomas are a rare and heterogeneous group of tumors.[9,22] In the period reported on in this study, 454 meningiomas were operated upon at our institution; of these, some 7% were attached to the tentorium.

These types of posterior fossa meningiomas can cause headaches, seizures, and difficulty walking. 2015-03-26 · Patients harboring a lateral tentorium meningioma (T6–T7 subgroup) usually present with headache, dizziness, and gait unsteadiness. 4,12 Clinical examination often reveals a gait ataxia and involvement of the VIIIth cranial nerve (CN).

Tentorial meningiomas are those located under the surface of the tentorium cerebelli. Clival meningiomas proceed from the clivus bone in the direction of the middle cranial fossa or the direction of the brainstem. Cerebellopontine angle lesions arise from the medial portion of the petrous bone.

Tentorial meningioma

OBJECTIVE: Even during the microsurgical era, tentorial meningiomas present a formidable surgical challenge when tumor involves critical neurovascular structures. We report our experience with tentorial meningioma with regard to clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, microsurgical technique, complications, is used. For each group of tentorial meningioma classified (anterior incisural, middle incisural, falcotentorial, posterolateral and posteromedial, torcular) and the subtypes, consideration is given to the optimal surgical corridor. Particular topics discussed include careful interpretation of the preoperative venous sinus to determine the extent of tumor involvement; devascularization 2020-10-24 · Meningiomas associated with the tentorial incisura present a considerable number of surgical challenges because of their relationship to the structures involved in the principal deep venous drainage systems of the diencephalon.

Tentorial meningioma

90 percent of meningiomas are  Meningioma brain tumours develop in the set of three membranes that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord just inside the skull.

Tentorial meningiomas are notorious for their critical location. Selection of a suitable approach that exposes the multicompartmental growth of tumor is important for a complete and safe resection. This paper discusses about various operative approaches and their overall surgical outcome. Twenty-five meningiomas located at the tentorial notch were surgically treated between 1978 and 1993 at the Neurosurgical Department of Nordstadt Hospital in Hannover, Germany.

Tentorial herniation is a serious symptom, especially since the brainstem is likely to be compressed as well if the intracranial pressure rises further. A common type of herniation is uncal herniation. Calcifications within the cerebellar tentorium are relatively common in elderly people; they seem to rarely cause symptoms. Additional images

The TMs can be classified into 2 types as superior/inferior to the tentorium, and subtypes as medial/lateral, anterior/middle/posterior according its location and the origination of the tumor. Six different surgical approaches were utilized in the study mainly depending on the tumor location and the surgeon's preference.

Particular topics discussed include careful interpretation of the preoperative venous sinus to determine the extent of tumor involvement; devascularization 2017-03-22 Tentorial meningiomas encompass 2-6% of all intracranial meningiomas [1-3]. These meningiomas are dichotomized into falcotentorial and torcular. Torcular meningioma are stated to be located in the posterior cranial fossa attached to the confluence of sinuses with or without sinus invasion. 2013-12-01 1995-05-01 2019-10-10 According to the primary site of attachment, the tentorial meningiomas were divided into three subgroups: medial, lateral, and falcotentorial.
